When you buy a leasehold, you may also buy a share of the freehold. These will be two separate titles: one leasehold (flat), one freehold (land).
There are many advantaged of buying a share of freehold. If you are buying a flat and all flat-owners own a share of the lease, it’s possible that you may all agree to extend the lease at no extra cost. You will also have full control of the building and be able to deal with issues such as maintenance directly.
